THE RACE

Around the World
Single-handed
Non-stop
Un-supported
1968 technology
The Golden Globe Race originated in 1968 as the first non-stop, solo, unassisted circumnavigation of the world, famously won by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. The modern edition is a "retro" race that honors this heritage by banning GPS and modern electronics, requiring skippers to navigate using only sextants and paper charts.
THE ROUTE

The modern race departs from Les Sables D'Olonne in Sep 2026. I expect it to take between 200-300 days to complete, with non-stop photo gates at Lanzarote and Hobart, Tasmania.
The full list of race rules can be found here for you sailing nerds, and the race website is well worth a visit.
